Coronavirus in two Zagreb hospitals, five employees and 16 patients are infected
CORONAVIRUS appeared in two Zagreb hospitals.
Four employees and 16 patients have been infected at the Sveti Ivan Psychiatric Hospital, as well as a doctor who works at the Department of Oncology and Nuclear Medicine at the Sestre Milosrdnice Hospital.
Four employees and 16 patients have been infected with the coronavirus at the Department for Palliative Care of the Sveti Ivan Psychiatric Hospital in Zagreb, HRT reports.
The department was closed off, and the premises were disinfected.
All 34 people working at the Department for Palliative Care are in self-isolation, and so are four other coronavirus-positive employees, meaning that a total of 39 employees of the Sveti Ivan Hospital are now in self-isolation.
At the Sestre Milosrdnice Clinical Hospital, also known as the Vinogradska Hospital, a resident from western Slavonia who was at work on Monday is also coronavirus positive.
Sostar: Unfortunately, there are 24 new cases in Zagreb, 20 of them from the Sveti Ivan Hospital
Zvonimir Sostar, director of the Teaching Institute for Public Health Dr. Andrija Stampar, also confirmed this information.
The patient who was examined by the infected doctor is in self-isolation, and so are 19 doctors and nurses. Sostar told Hina that epidemiologists have their work cut out for them with tracking down everyone who was in contact with the infected individuals.
He also stated that the results of 50 tests are yet to arrive.
"Unfortunately, I don't have good news when it comes to Zagreb, 24 people tested positive, and we are waiting for the results of 50 more tests. Out of the 24 infected people, 16 are patients at the Sveti Ivan Hospital, four are employees of that hospital, and one is an employee of the Sestre Milosrdnice Clinical Hospital. It isn't what we hoped for, but our epidemiologists are working hard to track down all the people who were in contact with the infected individuals. I would like to commend the reaction of the director of the Sveti Ivan Hospital. Swabs of a total of 65 people were taken in the hospital, including 39 patients and 26 employees. Unfortunately, 16 patients and four employees tested positive," Sostar stated for RTL Today.
20 people from the Vinogradska Hospital are in self-isolation
The director of the Clinic, Mario Zovak, said that none of the colleagues of the infected doctor have shown any signs of illness so far.
"A resident of our institution informed us that she has a fever and that she tested positive for coronavirus, so we immediately activated our corona-team. Given that we have already dealt with the coronavirus at the beginning of the epidemic, we know exactly who is doing what at all times. Swabs were taken from everyone who was in contact with the infected resident, and test results are expected by the end of the day," Zovak said.
There are 19 health workers in isolation. Most of them are nurses, and there are also several doctors and one patient she was in contact with while wearing a mask.
"Immediately after receiving the news regarding the infection, the on-duty epidemiologist of the Croatian Institute of Public Health was contacted, epidemiological investigations were performed, and people who were in contact with the resident were tracked. Our colleague does not know how she got infected, but we are aware which of our employees were in contact with her," Zovak said.
